It is situated at the intersection of Maryland Route 165 and Maryland Route 648, approximately 10 miles northeast of Baltimore City. The area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Bowleys Quarters has a rich history dating back to the 17th century, when it was first settled by English colonists. The community is home to several historic sites, including the Bowleys Quarters Meeting House, which was built in 1702 and is the oldest surviving Quaker meeting house in Maryland.
