Bor is a city in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Volga River, opposite the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Bor was first mentioned in historical chronicles in 1366 as a village called Motavka. In the 16th century, it became a possession of the Stroganov family, who developed the city's salt industry. In the 19th century, Bor became a major industrial center, with the construction of a number of factories and plants. Today, Bor is a modern city with a population of over 78,000 people. It is home to a number of historical and cultural landmarks, including the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Bor City Museum.
