Blythewood, South Carolina, is a town located approximately 12 miles northeast of Columbia. The town experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Blythewood's history dates back to the early 19th century when it was known as "Stumphole" due to the abundance of tree stumps in the area. The town was renamed Blythewood in 1891 after William Blythe, a local landowner who donated land for the construction of a railroad depot.
