Bluff City is a town in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. It is located at the foot of Bluff Mountain, at the junction of the Holston and Watauga Rivers. The town was founded in 1790 by Colonel John Tipton, and was originally known as Tiptonville. The name was changed to Bluff City in 1855. The town has a population of 1,733 (2010 census). The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. The town is home to several historical sites, including the Bluff City Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
