Bijapur was founded in the 11th century and was the capital of the Adil Shahi dynasty from 1490 to 1686. The city is home to several historical monuments, including the Gol Gumbaz, one of the largest domes in the world, and the Ibrahim Rauza, a mausoleum built by Ibrahim Adil Shah II in memory of his wife.
