Bethpage is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York, United States. Located on Long Island, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Manhattan, Bethpage is part of the New York metropolitan area. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Bethpage was originally settled by the Matinecock Native Americans and was later part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. It was named after the Dutch word "beth paege," meaning "good land." The area was developed in the 19th century and became a popular summer resort. Today, Bethpage is a thriving community with a diverse population and a strong economy.
