Belorado is a town and municipality in the province of Burgos, Castile and León, Spain. It is located on the banks of the Najerilla River, a tributary of the Ebro River, at an altitude of 822 meters (2,700 feet) above sea level. The town has a population of approximately 2,000 people. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Belorado was founded in the 9th century by the Moors. It was conquered by the Christians in the 11th century and became an important stop on the Camino de Santiago, the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The town has a rich historical and cultural heritage, including the Church of Santa María, the Monastery of San Millán, and the ruins of the Castle of Belorado.
