Beli Manastir was first mentioned in the 13th century as a Benedictine monastery, and its name translates to "White Monastery." The town has a long and tumultuous history, having been part of the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy, and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, before becoming part of independent Croatia in 1991. Beli Manastir is known for its beautiful architecture, including the Church of the Assumption of Mary, the Town Hall, and the Bishop's Palace, as well as its traditional crafts, such as pottery and weaving.
