It is located in the Southern Great Plain region, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) southeast of the city of Békéscsaba. The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in January is -1.5 °C (29.3 °F), and the average temperature in July is 22.5 °C (72.5 °F). The village was first mentioned in 1214, and it has a rich history. It was part of the Ottoman Empire from 1566 to 1699, and it was the site of a major battle in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. The village has a number of historical landmarks, including the Roman Catholic church, which was built in the 13th century.
