Bassignana is a town in the province of Alessandria in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is located on the left bank of the Po River, about 20 kilometers south of Casale Monferrato. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters. The town has a long history, dating back to the Roman era. It was an important center of trade and commerce in the Middle Ages, and was home to a number of notable historical figures, including the poet Francesco Petrarca.
