Bankaw is a municipality in the province of Tawi-Tawi in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Philippines. It is located on the island of Sanga-Sanga, approximately 5.0192° N, 120.0091° E, and is part of the Sulu Archipelago. The municipality experiences a tropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 27.5°C and an average annual rainfall of 1,500 mm. Historically, Bankaw was established in 1968 and was named after a local bird called "bankaw." The municipality is home to various cultural heritage sites, including the Tong Bangkaw Mosque, which is considered a landmark in the region.
