Baltiysk, formerly known as Pillau, is a port city in the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, located on the Sambia Peninsula on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea. The city has a rich history, dating back to the 13th century when it was founded by the Teutonic Knights. It served as a major port for Prussia and later Germany, and was heavily fortified during the Cold War. Today, Baltiysk is a naval base and home to the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy.
