Băile Tuşnad, also known as Tusnádfürdő, is a spa town in Romania located in the eastern part of the country, in Harghita County, in the historical region of Transylvania. The town is situated at an altitude of 650 m (2,130 ft) above sea level, in the Carpathian Mountains, on the banks of the Olt River. The climate is temperate continental, with an average annual temperature of 9 °C (48 °F) and an average annual precipitation of 800 mm (31 in). Băile Tuşnad has a long history as a spa town, dating back to the 16th century, when the first thermal springs were discovered. The town was officially declared a spa town in 1842, and it has been a popular destination for tourists ever since.
