Bad Axe, Michigan, is a small city located in Huron County in the Thumb region of the state. It is situated approximately 110 miles north of Detroit and 75 miles south of Saginaw. The city has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Bad Axe was founded in 1856 and was originally known as Port Crescent. The city was renamed Bad Axe in 1869 after a local Native American legend. Bad Axe has a rich history and heritage, with many of its early settlers being German and Polish immigrants. The city is home to several historic buildings, including the Bad Axe Opera House and the Huron County Historical Museum.
