Avon is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. It is located 15 miles south of Boston and has a population of approximately 4,700. The town was founded in 1636 and was originally known as "Mount Hope". The name was changed to "Avon" in 1888. The town is home to the Avon Public Library, which was founded in 1892. The town is also home to the Avon Historical Society, which was founded in 1968.
