The town has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. `Aşīrah ash Shamālīyah has a rich history dating back to the Roman period, and its heritage includes a number of archaeological sites, including the ruins of a Roman fortress and a Byzantine church.
