Ashland is a town in Hanover County, Virginia, United States. It is located on the south bank of the Pamunkey River, approximately 12 miles northeast of Richmond. The town was founded in 1796 and named after Henry Clay's estate, Ashland, in Kentucky. Ashland has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The town's history and heritage are closely tied to the tobacco industry and the American Civil War.
