Ashland, Ohio is a city in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. It is located in the north-central part of the state, approximately 60 miles southwest of Cleveland and 60 miles northeast of Columbus. The city has a population of approximately 20,000 people. The climate in Ashland is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 75 degrees Fahrenheit, while the average temperature in January is 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Ashland was founded in 1816 by John and Andrew Bartley. The city was named after Henry Clay's estate, Ashland, in Kentucky. Ashland was a major stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. The city is home to Ashland University, a private liberal arts university.
