Arzens is a commune in the Aude department in southern France, in the region of Languedoc-Roussillon. It is located on the left bank of the river Aude, about 10 km southwest of Carcassonne. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The average temperature is 14°C (57°F) and the average annual rainfall is 700 mm (28 in). The history of Arzens dates back to the Roman era, when it was known as Arxens. The town was fortified in the Middle Ages and was the site of a battle between the French and the Spanish in 1637. Arzens is home to a number of historical monuments, including the church of Saint-Pierre, which dates back to the 12th century, and the Château d'Arzens, which was built in the 16th century.
