Apple Valley is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States, located approximately 15 miles south of downtown Minneapolis. The city has a population of approximately 50,000 and is known for its numerous parks, trails, and lakes. The weather in Apple Valley is typically cold and snowy in the winter and warm and humid in the summer. The city was founded in 1858 by a group of settlers from New York and was originally known as Eureka. In 1891, the city was renamed Apple Valley after the many apple orchards that were planted in the area.
