An Najaf al Ashraf, also known as An Najaf, is a city in Iraq located in the central-southern part of the country, approximately 160 kilometers south of Baghdad. It has a hot desert climate with average temperatures ranging from 15°C in January to 45°C in July. The city has a rich history dating back to the 7th century when it became a center of Shia Islam after the burial of Imam Ali, the fourth Caliph of Islam, in the city. It is also known for its religious significance, with the Imam Ali Mosque being one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam. The city is also home to several universities and cultural institutions, contributing to its status as a significant educational and cultural center in Iraq.
