Amantea is a town on the Tyrrhenian Sea coast in Calabria, southern Italy. It is located at the mouth of the Lao River, about 30 km (19 mi) northwest of Cosenza. The town has a population of about 10,000 people and is a popular tourist destination. The weather in Amantea is mild, with average temperatures ranging from 10°C (50°F) in January to 28°C (82°F) in July. The town has a long history, dating back to the 6th century BC when it was founded by the Greeks. It was later ruled by the Romans, Byzantines, and Normans.
