Alto, Texas, is a small town located in Cherokee County, in the eastern part of the state. The town has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Alto was founded in 1849 and was originally known as Alto Springs. The town was renamed Alto in 1850. The town's heritage is rooted in agriculture, and it is home to several historic buildings, including the Alto Opera House, which was built in 1885.
