The municipality is situated in the comarca of Torrijos, at an altitude of 605 meters above sea level and has a population of 2,354 inhabitants. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot summers and cold winters. The municipality has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. It was part of the Roman Empire and later the Visigothic Kingdom. During the Middle Ages, it was conquered by the Arabs and became part of the Caliphate of Cordoba. In the 13th century, it was reconquered by the Christians and became part of the Kingdom of Castile.
