Alba Iulia, also known as Alba Iulia or Gyulafehérvár, is a city in central Romania, in the Alba County, Transylvania region. It is located at the confluence of the Mureș and Sebeș rivers, at an altitude of 235 m. The city has a humid continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. Alba Iulia has a rich history and heritage, dating back to the Roman era, when it was known as Apulum. It was the capital of the Principality of Transylvania from 1541 to 1690 and the site of the 1918 Union of Transylvania with Romania.
