Acton, California, also known as Ehkton, is a town in Los Angeles County with a population of 7,596 (2010 census). It is located in the Antelope Valley, approximately 50 miles (80 km) north of downtown Los Angeles. The town has a warm Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Acton was founded in 1887 as a railroad stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad. The town's history is closely tied to the railroad industry, and it was once a major shipping point for agricultural products from the Antelope Valley. Today, Acton is a bedroom community for commuters who work in Los Angeles and other nearby cities.
