Abbotsford is a city in Marathon and Clark counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The city is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and State Highway 97, approximately 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Wausau. The city has a population of 2,310 as of the 2020 census. The city was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from New York and Pennsylvania. The city was named after Sir Walter Scott's novel, "The Abbot." The city is home to a number of businesses and industries, including a number of manufacturing companies. The city is also home to a number of churches, schools, and parks. The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 73°F (23°C), and the average temperature in January is 15°F (-9°C). The city receives an average of 34 inches (86 cm) of precipitation per year.
