  • February 5, 1923: Bill Ponsford, Australian cricketer, breaks the world record for the highest first-class cricket score, scoring 429 runs in his third match at this level, giving Victoria an innings total of 1,059. This achievement remains a record in first-class cricket history.
  • February 9, 1923: Billy Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia, resigns after the Country Party refuses to govern in coalition with him as the leader of the Nationalist Party. Stanley Bruce succeeds him, forming a Liberal–National Coalition that will persist in Australian politics for over a century.
