Zane Beverly Beck (1927–1985) was an influential American steel guitarist and pedal steel guitar builder, celebrated for his innovative 1952 introduction of knee levers to the pedal steel guitar, a change that allowed musicians to alter pitch effectively. This development became standard on modern instruments. Beck also performed on prominent stages like the Grand Ole Opry and started the ZB Music Company, later rebranded as BMI (Beck Musical Instruments), which produced steel guitars. His work significantly impacted the design and functionality of steel guitars.
