She immigrated to England at the age of four with her family. Initially a nurse, she later pursued higher education, earning a degree from the University of Leeds in 1983 and a master's from the University of Bradford in 1989. She worked as a lecturer before continuing her career in the National Health Service. Her contributions have made her a notable figure in both business and politics.
