Yvette Pierpaoli was a French refugee worker born on March 18, 1938, in Le Ban-Saint-Martin. She was the child of an Italian father and a French mother and became one of France's first female radio amateurs. Her work took her across Asia, Africa, South America, and Southeast Europe. Renowned author John le Carré dedicated his novel 'The Constant Gardener' to her. Tragically, she died in a car accident in Albania on April 18, 1999.
