Yu Chunshun (1951–1996) was a Chinese explorer who tragically died in the Lop Nur desert while searching for a lost oasis. His cause of death was dehydration, and he was found just two kilometers from a cache of food and water. In recognition of his explorations, asteroid 83600 Yuchunshun was named in his honor by astronomer Bill Yeung, with the official naming citation published by the Minor Planet Center in 2008. His life and endeavors remain a testament to human curiosity and the dangers of exploration.
