Yu Aoi (Yū Aoi, January 27, 1909 - July 21, 1975) was a Japanese mystery writer notable for being the first to write a novel focused on railway timetables, 'The Tragedy of the Funatomi Family' (1935). Although he was mainly an amateur author and a technical engineer, his work left a mark on Japanese detective fiction. Influenced by Western realistic writers, he emphasized realism, but his understated style did not gain wide acceptance during his active years in the 1930s and 1940s.
