Yoshirō Sakurai (September 17, 1931 - May 8, 2014) was a Japanese scholar of Japanese literature and a Doctor of Literature. He was an emeritus professor at Sugiyama Jogakuen University and a former professor at Bukkyo University. Writing under the pen name Jun'ichirō Hanai, he was a poet. Sakurai was a pioneer in researching medieval Japanese chronicles and myths since the 1960s. In 1982, he received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for his work on 'The Formation of Medieval Japanese Culture - Myths and Historical Narratives'.
