Yoshio Mori (森 与志男) was a Japanese novelist born on December 5, 1930, in Tokyo. During World War II, he was evacuated to Fukushima where he worked. After the war, he returned to Tokyo and attended Waseda University. While working as an English teacher in a metropolitan high school, he began writing novels, gaining recognition with his collection 'Journey in the Wasteland' (1978). He focused on youth struggling at the social bottom and received the 20th Takiji & Yuriko Prize for 'Calendar of Flames' (1988). Mori led the Japan Democracy Literature Society from 1999 to 2007.
