Yosh Kuromiya was an American artist and landscape architect, born in April 1923 in Sierra Madre, California. Following the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII, he was sent to Heart Mountain Relocation Center, where he engaged in art and resisted the draft, leading to his imprisonment. After being pardoned in 1947, he studied landscape architecture and designed private gardens. In the 1960s, Kuromiya actively participated in both the civil rights and gay rights movements, contributing to social justice causes throughout his life.
