Yngvar Gjessing is a Norwegian meteorology professor, emeritus at the University of Bergen, and associated with UNIS. He completed his master's degree in meteorology in 1965. Gjessing participated in seven expeditions to Antarctica and was instrumental in developing the university environment in Svalbard through UNIS. He has also contributed to meteorology education in Tibet. In 2006, he was appointed a Knight of the First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for his contributions to research and education.
