Ydessa Hendeles is a Canadian artist, art therapist, art collector, gallery owner, curator, and patron, born on December 27, 1948, in Marburg, Hessen. She founded The Ydessa Gallery in Toronto in 1980, significantly influencing Ontario's cultural scene. In 1988, she opened the Ydessa Hendeles Art Foundation, which was the first privately funded contemporary art exhibition hall in Canada.
