Yasuyuki Umewaka was a prominent Noh theater practitioner from the Kanze school, born on October 6, 1917. He was the youngest son of Umewaka Masanori and trained under his father and elder brother. He made his stage debut in 1921 and performed his first lead role in 1926. Recognized for his contributions to the arts, he received the Japan Arts Academy Prize in 1988 and became a member of the Academy in 1992. He was designated a holder of an important intangible cultural asset 'Noh theater' and was respected as one of the oldest and influential figures in the Noh community.
