Yahachi Tanabe (August 13, 1905 - April 29, 1990) was a Japanese navy officer known for his role during World War II. He served in the Imperial Japanese Navy as a captain of Submarine I-168, where he gained fame for sinking the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Yorktown during the Battle of Midway. He rose to the rank of naval lieutenant commander by the end of his service. Tanabe is recognized for his contributions to Japan's naval warfare strategy in the early 1940s.
