Yaakov Leiser (1907-1998), known as Reb Yankele, was the second Grand Rabbi of the Hasidic dynasty of Pshevorsk in Poland. He was the son-in-law and successor of Moshe Yitzchok Gewirtzman (Reb Itzekel) in 1976. Their intertwined fate unfolded before, during, and after World War II, as they moved together through Siberia, Poland, and Paris, France, until 1957, then to Antwerp, Belgium. After the Holocaust, the surviving Hasidic dynasties relocated from Europe, yet the Pshevorsk dynasty uniquely chose to remain in Europe while having a presence in Williamsburg, New York.
