Xu Jie was a Chinese writer and literary critic, born on September 16, 1901, in TianTai, Zhejiang. He held professor positions at Fudan University and East China Normal University, where he also served as the head of the Chinese Department. Xu Jie was labeled a rightist during the Anti-Rightist Movement, which significantly affected his career until he returned to teaching after the Cultural Revolution. He wrote under the pen name Zhang Zisan.
