Winifred Piesse was an influential Australian politician, born on June 12, 1923, in Narre Warren. She made history as the first woman to represent the Country Party in the Western Australian Legislative Council. After training as a nurse, she married Mervyn Piesse and became active in the Country Party in 1948. Piesse served on the Wagin Shire Council in 1971 and was elected to the Legislative Council in 1977, continuing her political career until 1983. She was a significant figure in Western Australian politics until her death on March 11, 2017.
