William E. Moerner is an American physicist and chemist, born on June 24, 1953, in Pleasanton, Alameda, California. He is known for his work in physical chemistry and chemical physics, currently focusing on biophysics. Moerner attended Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas, and later studied at Washington University in St. Louis. He achieved significant scientific accomplishments, most notably winning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2014, which he shared with Stefan Hell for their development of high-resolution fluorescence microscopy.
