Wiel Manders was a Dutch Esperantist born on April 24, 1910, in Venlo and died on January 17, 1998, in Venray. He was a lecturer in ancient Greek and Latin languages and gained prominence for translating Homer's Odyssey from ancient Greek in 1932. He authored several interlinguistic works, including his doctoral dissertation comparing Volapuk, Esperanto, Ido, Occidental, and Novial. He also published the 'Esperanto Leerboek,' which saw multiple editions by 1995. Manders served as an academician between 1954 and 1962.
