Walter Wittmer (1915 – June 29, 1998) was a Swiss entomologist who specialized in beetles (Coleoptera). He described many beetle taxa for the first time and was known for his extensive collection of Coleoptera which included families such as Lycidae, Omethidae, and Lampyridae. His collection, alongside species gathered during his travels to India, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey, was donated to the Naturhistorisches Museum Basel in 1983.
