Walter Sidebottom was an English professional footballer born on February 1, 1921, known for playing as a winger for Bolton Wanderers in the Football League. During World War II, he served in the Royal Navy as an able seaman aboard HMS Charybdis. Unfortunately, he lost his life in action when the ship was sunk by German torpedo-boat destroyers at the Battle of Sept-Îles on October 23, 1943. Sidebottom is commemorated at the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
