Walter Lamar Scott was an American forklift driver who was shot and killed by police officer Michael Slager on April 4, 2015, in North Charleston. Scott, 50, was stopped by Slager during a traffic check for a broken brake light and fled on foot due to an outstanding warrant for unpaid child support. After Slager attempted to use a Taser and Scott continued to flee, Slager shot him eight times, five of which hit Scott. The incident was captured on video, leading to protests and legal proceedings against Slager.
