Walter Koechner is a US American electrical engineer born on February 7, 1937, in Stuttgart. He specializes in solid-state lasers and their applications, authoring several standard works in this field. Koechner received his engineering degree from TH Stuttgart and earned his doctorate in electrical engineering at TU Wien in 1965. He worked at Hughes Aircraft and Union Carbide in laser development. He is the founder of Fibertek, which focuses on solid-state laser technology for remote sensing and optical radar. He has been a member of IEEE since 1964.
