Waldir Freitas Oliveira was a Brazilian historian, essayist, and professor born on February 17, 1929, in Salvador. He was a prominent member of the Academia de Letras da Bahia, holding the immortal seat number 18. Oliveira was also the founder of the Afro-Ásia magazine. He made significant contributions to Brazilian literature and historical studies until his death on June 17, 2021.
